Crestwood Student Madison Dompkosky Raises Funds For Homeless Veterans

“I think it is very important for all of us to remember, especially when we are returning to our warm homes this evening, that there are Veterans without a warm and safe place to stay tonight. It really breaks my heart.” Madison Dompkosky said.

That’s why Madison decided to organize this Halloween fundraising event to benefit the St. Francis of Assisi Commons Veteran’s program in Scranton, Pa. St. Francis Commons helps homeless Veterans take back the pride and dignity that they have lost through their struggle. The St. Francis’ mission is to combat the growing epidemic of homelessness in American Veterans by bringing quality of life to these forgotten heroes.

Dozens came out Friday night to King’s Restaurant in Mountaintop to support this worthwhile event — many of them students from Crestwood Middle School. There was DJ, dancing, food, raffle baskets and a costume contest. For admission to the event, you were asked to bring an item from the St. Francis Veteran’s program Wish List.

“It means a lot to see our community giving back,” said Madison’s mother, Sandy. “Our Military and Veterans have sacrificed for us and now they need our help, especially with Christmas time and the cold months coming.”
