The Giving Tree gives us the opportunity to remember the less fortunate and shut-ins of the parish and community at Christmas. Now is the time to call the Parish Center with a person’s or families’ name, address, children’s ages, clothing sizes, and special needs. Names will be accepted until November 9 to ensure everyone gets a gift on time. All names will be kept confidential.
There will be one last refresher course for all existing altar servers on Thursday, November 5 at 5:30 p. m. All existing altar servers are required to attend one of the refresher sessions to be aware of some changes.
St. Mary’s in Dorrance will hold their annual Roast Beef Dinner on Saturday, November 7 from 3 p. m. until 7 p. m. The family--style meal includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, pickled cabbage, red beets, dinner roll, dessert, and beverage. The Feed My Sheep Ministry will be collecting slightly used or new blankets for the homeless during the month of October. Blankets may be dropped off in the entry way of St. Jude School. Blankets will be distributed on Saturday, November 7.
St. Mary’s in Dorrance will hold its annual Turkey Bingo on Sunday, November 15 at 1 p. m. in the social hall at 3529 Saint Mary’s Road in Wapwallopen. The doors open at noon. The kitchen will be open for lunch. In addition to regular bingo, there will be specials, raffles, and door prizes. Admission is $2. The Social Action Committee is collecting Pack-N-Plays, baby swings, high chairs, bath tubs, gates, and clothes up to 2 years old for Pennsylvanians for Human Life. No other items can be accepted. Anyone who would like to donate is asked to contact the Parish Center ext. 250 to arrange for pick up.
The Spiritual Team at Geisinger Medical Center, 1000 East Mountain Blvd. in Wilkes-Barre, is offering two free “Living with Grief” support group sessions on Wednesday afternoons from 2 p. m. until 3:30 p. m. or evenings from 6 p. m. until 7:30 p. m.
