Rother and Tanner Kahlau sparked the Comets offense. Rother scored his first TD of the game on a 12-yard pass from quarterback Lance Blass.

Kahlau tied the score at 14 in the opening stanza on a 51-yard rambling run.

Crestwood tacked on two more scores in the second quarter on 3-yard and 18-yard runs by Rother. Kahlau’s 33-yard scoring run put Crestwood in front.

After a scoreless third quarter, it looked like the game could be headed to overtime. The Patriots scored on a 1-yard run from Kyle Petroski to tie the game at 35-35 with 2:12 remaining.

The Comets crossed midfield on their next possession but an interception by the Patriots Ryan Davis with only 23 seconds remaining looked like it could be all over for the Comets.

On the day, Crestwood finished with 358 yards, 302 on the ground and 56 in the air.

Kahlau led Crestwood in rushing with 112 yards on nine carries. Josh Malkemes finished the day with 32 yards on four carries and caught one pass for 36 yards.

Next Friday, October 2, Crestwood (1-3) will travel to Wyoming Area.
