Elizabeth “Betty” Barna, 70, Wapwallopen, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Her husband of 44 years is Joseph Barna Sr.
Betty was born June 17, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre. She was a daughter of the late Benjamin Ciecierski and Emily Lutchko Ciecierski. Betty was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1963, and the Empire Beauty School, Wilkes-Barre.
Elizabeth was a wonderful homemaker dedicated to her family. She was a great baker of cookies, and did fine needlepoint.
She was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Skinner; her nephews, John Skinner and Bobby Barna.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Joseph, are her daughter, Brenda Eberhardt, Wilkes-Barre and her fiance, Russ Wacher; and her son, Joseph Barna Jr. and his wife, Dawna, Wapwallopen; her grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Justin, and Emily; her brother, John Ciecierski and his wife, Michelle, Orange; her niece and goddaughter, Nicolena Caine, New Jersey; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9:15 a. m. Wednesday, September 23 from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township with requiem services and Divine Liturgy at 10 a. m. in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 635 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. John Cigan as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas. Family and friends may call 6 to 9 p. m. Tuesday. Parastas service 6 p. m. with the Rev. John Cigan officiating.
