St. Jude Parish Grateful For Community Support

The most exciting weekend on the mountain, the weekend of the St. Jude Picnic, was once again a tremendous success. To the hundreds of people who helped clean up the grove, worked on planning committees, prepared the food, manned the booths, donated prizes, etc., a great big “Thank You”. To the thousands who came from near and far, the parish extends a sincere “Thank You” for supporting this annual event.

This year, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is not a Holy Day of Obligation since the date falls on the weekend. Mass times will not change.

A VIRTUS training session will be held on Thursday, August 20 from 6 p. m. until 9 p. m. in the St. Jude School cafeteria. This training is required for all adult employees and volunteers who have direct contact or routine interaction with children. During this training, a facilitator will teach the tools, and show the resources to maintain a safe environment for all children. Techniques will be incorporated in a discussion format to help you recognize the warning signs of child sexual abuse and show you how to respond appropriately and effectively. Please call the parish office to register.

Parishioners are invited to St. Mary’s in Dorrance for a chicken BBQ and craft show on Saturday, August 22 from 3 p. m. until 8 p. m. The dinner is $9.00. Crafters are wanted. The cost is $20 per table. Call St. Mary’s at 570-868-5855 to reserve a table.

The music ministry of St. Jude Parish is seeking more cantors. Parishioners who are interested in becoming a part of this ministry are asked to contact Joe Dubinski at the Parish Center. Adult choir practice will begin Wednesday, August 26 at 7 p. m. in the church.

If any parishioner or a loved one is hospitalized or homebound and he/ she would like a pastoral visit from the clergy, call the Parish Center.

The following items are needed for the Mountaintop Food Bank: boxed soup mix instead of Ramen noodles, cream soups, baked beans, jelly, peanut butter, canned fruit, tuna, mayonaisse, pudding, jello, sugar, and coffee. Please drop off donations in the annex of the church. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Catechists are needed for next year’s Religious Education program. Parishioners are invited to share their faith with the young people in this important ministry. Team-teaching opportunities are available for those who are unable to commit to a full year. Substitute teachers are also needed. Please contact Erin O’Dea at the Parish Center to volunteer.
