Dr. and Mrs. Juan DeRojas recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary with their five children –Elena Eichorn, Beatriz Waskevich, Dr. Juan DeRojas, Maria Eliana Glenn, and Maria Luisa Moulton, along with their 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and close relatives from Miami, Florida.

Dr. DeRojas, 90, is a retired General and Vascular Surgeon, Chief of Surgery of the VA Medical Center of Wilkes Barre, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Mrs. Elena DeRojas, 88, is a retired Elementary School Teacher of St. Jude’s School in Mountain Top.

They were married on June 11th, 1950 in Havana, Cuba, at the Chapel of Colegio de Belen, a Jesuit School where Dr. Juan DeRojas studied. The couple was united in marriage by Cardinal Manuel Arteaga and Francisco Barbeito, SJ. They celebrated with a honeymoon in Florida and New York.

Juan and Elena renewed their wedding vows at St. Jude’s Church in Mountain Top with Fr. Jerry Shantillo officiating and a dinner with family at Theodora’s Restaurant in Drums.
