Dorothy J. Womelsdorf, 86, Sheatown section of Newport Township, died May 12, 2015, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on July 14, 1928, in Askam, she was one of seven children born to Frank and Mary Kowalski Schultz. She graduated from Hanover Memorial High School, Class of 1945. She married Thomas C. Womelsdorf on June 11, 1949. They made their home in Sheatown and raised five children.

In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Womelsdorf enjoyed a long career as a bookkeeper, stenographer and secretary. Early in life she was employed by Union Paper and Supply Company, Wilkes-Barre, Superior Motors Chrysler-Plymouth, Kingston, for many years and Luzerne County Community College. She was last employed at the former Mercy Health Care Center, Sheatown, retiring in 1991.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Alden Station, where she was active in all church activities, served as treasurer for nearly 40 years, was a member of the Vestry and Daughters of St. Andrew women’s group, serving as president for many years. She also was a Cub Scouts den mother for Pack 428, was active in the PTA for many years and served as Newport Township Democratic Committeewoman for over 30 years.

Dorothy was the last member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Helen Walski, Bruno Schultz, Sylvester Schultz, Edward Schultz, Viola Yarmolowicz and Victor Schultz.

She will be greatly missed by

her husband of 65 years, Thomas C. Womelsdorf; children, Tracey Marso and husband, J. P., Mountain Top; Ronald Womelsdorf and wife, Margaret, Sheatown; Gary Womelsdorf, Sheatown; Terrance (Terry) Womelsdorf and partner, Jaynan Temarantz, Plymouth; and Kevin Womelsdorf, Nanticoke; three grandchildren, Amanda Womelsdorf, Douglas Womelsdorf and Lauren Mishanski and husband, Eric; two great-grandchildren, Treyton and Tenley Mishanski; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, Nanticoke.
