John “Barry” Wagner

U. S. Navy Veteran

John “Barry” Wagner, 68, Nescopeck Township, died May 8, 2015, at his home.

Born in Berwick, on Aug. 2, 1946, he was the only son of the late John William and Elizabeth (Steinbrenner) Wagner. He was a 1965 graduate of Nescopeck High School, after which enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was stationed in Germany and Spain, and all around the Mediterranean on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

He was employed as a driver at several trucking companies, and was most recently employed at the DEP, Wilkes-Barre, as a surveyor and inspector. He was also the owner of International Concrete Company for over 10 years.

Barry was a member of the Naval

Cryptologic Veterans Association, the American Legion, the Masons in Berwick and Allentown, and the Shriners. He enjoyed working in his shop, and was an amateur radio operator, known as K3TDJ. He loved taking trips to Gettysburg as often as he could.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, the former Linda L. Taylor; and his “constant and loyal companions,” Sugar and Daisy. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. He will also be remembered by close friend, Ginny Young, Berwick.

A funeral service was held at Heller Funeral Home LLC, Nescopeck. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray the final expenses.

Robert C. Wallace

Mountain Top Resident

Robert C. Wallace, Mountain Top and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died May 6, 2015, in Celtic Hospice, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Margie.

A memorial Mass was held at in St. Andre Bessette Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Arrangements were by Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

Verna M. Pawlowski

Dorrance Resident

Verna M. Pawlowski, 99, Dorrance, died May 4, 2015, at Smith Health Care, Mountain Top.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances Opolinski Melick.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Dorrance.

She was employed by American Cigar, Crestwood industrial Park, Mountain Top, for many years until its closing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1984; brothers, John and Frank Melick; and sisters, Frances La Marca, Louise Prestasch and Agnes Sinkus.

Surviving are her sons, Joseph and wife, Geraldine, John and wife, Nina, and Stanley Pawlowski, all of Dorrance; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gertrude Rowlands, Fairfax, Va.; Martha Valenga, Greenberg; and Margaret Miklosi, Hanover Township.

Funeral services were held from Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dorrance.
