Grove Theatre in Nuangola presents blockbuster musical Miss Saigon Theatre at the Grove continues their 2015 Season with the Tony Award Winning musical, Miss Saigon. Performances of the musical written by Les Miserables composers Claude-Michell Schonberg and Alain Boublil featuring lyrics by Boublil & Richard Maltby Jr. will take place at the historic Grove Theatre located at 5177 Nuangola Rd in Nuangola. Performances run weekends through May 17th.
Miss Saigon is based on Giacomo Puccini’s Opera, Madame Butterfly and similarly tells the tragic tail of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The setting of the plot is relocated to the 1970’s Saigon during the Vietnam War, and Madame Butterfly’s story of marriage between an American lieutenant and geisha is replaced by a romance between an American GI and a Vietnamese bar girl.
In April 1975 at “Dreamland” a Saigon bar and brothel shortly before the end of the Vietnam War, it is Kim’s first day as a bar girl. A 17-year old peasant girl is hauled in by the Engineer, a French-Vietnamese hustler who owns the joint. U. S. Marines, aware that they will be leaving Vietnam soon, party with the Vietnamese bar girls. In walks, Chris Scott, a Sergeant disenchanted by the club scene is encouraged by his friend John Thomas to partake in the evenings buying of girls. John purchases a room for Chris and Kim where they spend the night and fall in love. With a story that takes you through the end of the War with several plot twists, you won’t want to miss the heartbreaking journey of this award-winning show.
The cast of Miss Saigon stars Dane Bower as The Engineer, Skyler Makuch, of Mountaintop, as Kim, and Ben Steltz as Chris Scott. Supporting roles include Christian Lynch as John Thomas, Michael Marone as Thuy, Ericka Law as Ellen, and Marikate Sullivan as Gigi. The rest of the cast includes ensemble members Chris Laundry, Jonathan Muniz, Alex Muniz, Tyler Ocasio, David Baker, Brandon Baker, Christopher LeFrance, Sam Granteed, Brandon Frashefski, Adam Ercolani, Colin Edward, Matt Wegener, and Darren Moore, Eyanna Gruver, Reagan Venturi, Jess Ross, Lauren Fredmund, Wendi Newell, and Hollie Major.
