Vascular Surgeon Joins Geisinger-Community Medical Center

Steven J. Busuttil, M. D., has joined the Geisinger Heart and Vascular Institute at Geisinger-Community Medical Center (G-CMC) -home to Lackawanna County’s first and only accredited Heart Attack Receiving Center -as a vascular surgeon. Dr. Busuttil received his medical degree in 1988 from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, where he also completed a general surgery residency in 1994. He then completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, in 1996. Since 1996, Dr. Busuttil has held various high-level vascular surgical positions in Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Gastonia, North Carolina, and most recently as a vascular surgeon and medical director of the Cardiac Vascular and Thoracic Surgical Associates in Falls Church, Virginia. Dr. Busuttil was also a visiting scientist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1996-2003. He specializes in therapies for vascular patients including operative and non-operative therapy, providing diagnosis and high-level care for carotid artery disease, venous disease, aortic aneurysms and peripheral arterial disease using the latest minimally invasive endovascular techniques.

In addition to its accreditation as a Heart Attack Receiving Center by the American Heart Association, the Geisinger Heart and Vascular Institute at G-CMC is also accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, and has received the ACTION Registry Get with the Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award for demonstrating better quality and improved outcomes for heart attack patients.
