Crestwood continued to flex its muscles last week, and dominate the Wyoming Valley Conference football competition. The Comets rushed for 540 yards in a 63-27 victory over Coughlin on September 12 at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium.
The visiting Comets (3-0) showcased a balanced scoring attack as three players recorded over 100 yards, and four different players were responsible for Crestwood’s eight touchdowns.
The game was a scoring frenzy in the second half when both teams combined to score five touchdowns; three by the Comets and two by their opponents.
Crestwood quarterback Jay Popson, teamed up with running backs Frank Aigeldinger and Matt Bobeck turned in stellar performances in preserving the Comets’ unblemished record.
Popson turned Crestwood’s first three drives in touchdowns on off tackle runs of 17, 18 and 12 yards. His final score came in the final stanza to cap off a 17-play drive. On the night, Popson racked up 124 yards.
Aigeldinger had two consecutive touchdowns on 145 rushing yards for the winners. Aigeldinger had a total of 276 yards on the ground. Bockeck also scored two TDs and rushed for 129 yards.
Lance Blass came up with a key play in the fourth quarter when he came up with his second interception of the game.
Crestwood will travel to Pittston Area on Friday, September 19th where they will be seeking their fourth consecutive win. Game time is 7 p. m.
