Mary Grace Eckert, a sixth grade student at St. Jude School, has been notified that she was selected as a local winner in the Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program. Mary Grace was nominated by Mrs. Jeanne Rossi, Principal at St. Jude’s for her involvement in the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors Program. Winners were chosen based on the benefit and outcomes of their volunteer services.
During a few weeks before Christmas, Mary Grace sold Christmas cards for $1 each to students at the school and set up a stand in a few area businesses that were also supportive of her efforts. The signed cards, many with personal words of thanks, were then delivered personally by Mary Grace to veterans at the Walter Reed National Military Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Eckert also raised $3,565.50 in donations for the PA Wounded Warriors, whose mission is to help restore wounded warriors to good physical, mental and emotional health.
As a local winner, she earned a Kohl’s Cares® certificate, a $50 Kohl’s Gift Card, and is being considered for a regional scholarship worth $1,000.
