Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA) is proud to announce that Caroline Jones from Mountain Top has received The Gold Award Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 for continued education on June 21st at the 2014 Gold Award Ceremony at Milton Hershey High School in Hershey.
Caroline was chosen for the scholarship in recognition for her high level of academic achievement and outstanding successful track record as a Girl Scout. One particular example of her success as a Girl Scout was her 2013 Gold Award project, Read to Succeed. She distributed over 5,000 children’s books to community based agencies, non-profit organizations, libraries and day care centers in her community.
“We believe that the combination of success in school, coupled with a robust leadership experience in the Girl Scouts, positions these girls to accomplish great things in the future,” said Jane Ransom, CEO of GSHPA.
Caroline has been a Girl Scout for 13 years and has been active student in her high school. She is involved with Student Government Leadership Council, Drama Club, Theatre-International Thespian Society, choir, Kirby Library Teen Advisory Group and Book Club, and has written, illustrated and published a children’s book entitled “One More Book, Please!” She will attend King’s College and double major in Business Management and Mass Communications.
GSHPA has provided scholarships since its inception in 2007. “GSHPA is excited to see our scholarships help launch our Girl Scouts to a new level of their development into young women of distinction,” said Ransom.
