Tuesday, July 8
Junior Bird Club; 9-11 a. m.
During this meeting, we’ll learn about the many different nesting birds in the park, which include the beautiful wood duck and eastern bluebird. Dress for the weather! The Junior Bird Club is always open to new members ages 9 & up. There is a one-time fee of $5.00 for new members who are welcome to join at any time. Wednesday, July 9-Hiking Series: Boulder Field Trail; 9 a. m.
On this hike we’ll tackle a longer trail with slightly challenging terrain. Join us at the Hawk Falls Trailhead in Hickory Run State Park to hike the Boulder Field Trail for a total of 7-miles. Registration is not required, but any hike may be rescheduled due to inclement weather. When in doubt, please call the park office; 570-403-2006. Free.
Friday, July 18-Introduction to Geocaching; 6:30 p. m.
During this program, participants will learn how to use a handheld GPS unit to find hidden caches and get some hands-on practice. You’ll also be introduced to geocaching.comand learn how to continue geocaching on your own. There will be some hiking, so please wear comfortable hiking shoes. Limited space. Wednesday, July 23-Evening Kayak Paddle Sessions; 5:30 p. m. & 7 p. m.
Ages 9 & up (with experience!) Join us for a leisurely evening kayak paddle on the lake. These sessions are for those with previous kayak experience. There will be no formal instruction given during this course, so this is a good opportunity for someone who has gone through our introductory course and would like more on-the-water practice. Participants should bring water, bug screen, and wear shoes that can get wet. Limited space. Register for one session only. Registration required by calling 570-403-2006. Meet at Lake Frances. Free.
Friday, July 25-Hiking Series: Thomas Darling Preserve; 9 a. m.
Enjoy an easy 2.5-mile trek through a boreal bog during this hike at Thomas Darling Preserve in Blakeslee. The parking lot is off Burger Road; from the Wawa in Blakeslee, take Route 115 North 1 mile and turn right on Burger Road. Registration is not required, but any hike may be rescheduled due to inclement weather. When in doubt, please call the park office; 570-403-2006. Free.
Saturday, July 26-Ferns & Summer Wildflowers; 10 a. m.
This program is for adults 18 & up. Join guest presenter Jim Montgomery for an easy hike to identify some ferns and summer wildflowers found in the park. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and don’t forget a camera!
